“Dancing with the Stars” was on fire last night! Now, I admit, I was flipping between it and “Sleepy Hollow” but what I caught impressed me! You know I’ve been pulling for Amber Riley and her pro partner Derek Hough. But as I’ve said a couple of times, they face stiff competition from Corbin Bleu and his pro partner Karina Smirnoff. And let me tell you, I was about to turncoat, because Bleu and Smirnoff performed one of my favorite dance songs last night, Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” for their freestyle dance. Yes, if there’s a son that inspires me to join a dance academy so I can properly bust a move, it is that one. The choreography is so tight! And Bleu and Smirnoff did FANTASTIC! It was awesome, as the judged agreed, earning a well-deserved 30 out of 30 points. Just when I thought they had it sewn up, the Riley-Hough duo blew me away, too. Man, I’ve said it time and time again, Miss Amber can move! She said she was going to show young girls how to move that weight around and I’ll say, Amber, you’re showing girls of all ages. he’s so inspiring. And her precision on her freestyle dance, which also incorporated a stepping routine, was excellent. She and those six professional dancers, including Hough, were so intune. While Bleu and Smirnoff channeled MJ, Riley sure enough was a carbon copy of his baby sister, Janet. “You’re there with six pro guys; I only watched you. I’ll tell you what you are: you’re class, fast and built to last,” judge Len Goodman praised. Judge Bruno Tonioli, excitedly offered, “I’m telling you, you are a leading lady!” She and Hough also earned 30 points. It is a tough competition and tomorrow, we’ll be celebrating new winners. It airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. Check out last night’s episode here.

Here’s what else is happening…
Well, all of you “Girlfriends” fans will be happy to know Toni Childs returned to TV! Jill Marie Jones, known best for paying one-fourth of the girl clique many sistas loved, guest starred on “Sleepy Hollow” as Captain Frank Irving’s estranged wife, Cynthia, and Amandla Stenberg as their daughter, Macey. As you know, Orlando Jones plays Irving. I watched most of the show but was flipping between it and ‘DWTS.’ Definitely need to rewatch. You can watch it here too. “Orphan Black” will return for a second season on April 19, 2014. I loved this BBC America and am pretty sure that star Tatiana Maslany, who plays a multitude of roles, will be nominated for an Emmy next year (and hopefully will win. I mean, she’s playing six distinct characters!). Yes, she’s that good. Check out season 1 here. Did you get a chance to see New York Times bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell on “60 Minutes?” If not, you definitely want to check out the interview he did with Anderson Cooper about the power of the underdog. Gladwell, who’s new book “David & Goliath” published last month, says “when you’re an underdog you’re forced to try things you would have otherwise not attempted.” I think Gladwell is pretty interesting and liked this piece, which also talks about his upbringing with his Jamaican mother and English father. Watch it below.

On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand…
“Dancing with the Stars”: Amber Riley and Derek Hough are my favorites but after last night’s performance by Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, it could be anyone’s mirrored ball. The two-hour finale airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. [Watch here]
“New Girl”: I had been meaning to check out this Fox series. Will watch it via XFINITY On Demand. It airs tonight at 9 p.m. EST on Fox. [Watch here]
The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: Robert Townsend confirms a “The Five Heartbeats” sequel (Now, some may say this is a “not” but I loved the first movie and would like to see Townsend’s work on the big screen again.).
NOT: Kanye West’s latest rants (Yes, I can still extract some truth from his statements but overall the message is overshadowed by what seems to be an ever-growing, ginormous EGO! Ye, I’m still going to send you some light and love.).
HOT: Taye Diggs saying shooting down that ridiculous rumor that he dissed black women; via Twitter he said: “Regarding the preposterous quote about black women: It is false. I have not and would never say such a thing. Ever. Period.” (Glad he didn’t say that but also
unfortunate someone would create such an ugly, divisive hateful rumor.).
NOT: The person(s) who created the false statement (and those who circulated it) that Taye Diggs, whose wife is white, made derogatory statements about black women compared to white women (Really?? You must be bored!).
