SPOILER ALERT

“Scandal” was something else last night! And Olivia Pope’s mother, Maya Lewis, is serious. She’s being kept in a maximum security facility that resembles something Hannibal Lecter was caged in during “The Silence of the Lambs.” Apparently her husband, who she calls Eli, but the secretive B-613 knows him as Rowan, felt her actions warranted such treatment. In my best Olivia Pope impersonation, equipped with lip quiver and all, I ask Mama Pope: “What. Did. You. Do?” And speaking of cannibals, do you know this woman was so distraught over the news of never seeing her daughter again that she attempted suicide by gnawing away at her own wrists like a self-mutilating Walker from “The Walking Dead??” Yes, ma’am (or sir), she did. Mama Pope is gangsta and anyone who had doubts about Khandi Alexander playing the part is probably eating crow right now. It should be no surprise that a gal who “ate her own wrists,” as the doctor told Eli/Rowan Pope, would have some other tricks up sleeve. After her suicide attempt, Daddy Pope visited, showing her news clippings of Olivia from her teens and adulthood. He reiterated that she’d never see Liv. That set her off and she drugged the doctor with the medication intended for her, escaping and loitering on the street until she spotted her baby girl. “Livie” she called out and Olivia turned in shock.  That was the episode’s final scene. All I could think was, it’s on now!

While that storyline was exciting, you know it wasn’t all that took place. After ignoring Fitz’s calls and subsequently smashing the phone he calls her on, Liv gives in and takes a Secret Service helicopter to Vermont to meet him. They talk and he says he didn’t know why her father gave the order to shoot down the passenger airplane her mom was thought to be on. They agree that Daddy Pope has to be stopped. Then he reels her back in by telling her that he built the house they were in for them to have  babies and grow old together. That did it. Clothes dropped and they were at it. Meanwhile, the First Lady, Mellie, unsuccessfully tried reaching both of them, trusting her woman’s intuition that they were together.

Cyrus, Cyrus, Cyrus. Sooner or later, Mr. Cyrus Beene, I knew your plotting would come back and kick you in the butt. Last night was the night. After he and Mellie discover Vice President Sally Langtson’s hubby, Daniel Douglas, is bisexual, they plot to frame him in a compromising position with–you’ve guessed it– Cyrus’s husband, the naive James. Long story short, a humiliated James figures it out after Daniel comes on to him. Watching that scene, I was like, duh, James, didn’t Cyrus use you before with that Nellie exclusive last season? I guessed that ticked him off and the two men made out. Cyrus, probably thinking he would catch Daniel trying to kiss James, received photos from his snoop of the two dude’s getting it in. Yep, his feelings were hurt.

Shout out to filmmaker Ava DuVernay, who directed the episode. It was great. Next week is Thanksgiving and “Scandal” won’t air. The next show will be in two weeks, on Dec. 6. After that, it’s hiatus time. “Scandal” airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST  on ABC. Catch up on past episodes here.

Here’s what else is happening…

Since we’re on”Scandal,” its creator and showrunner Shonda Rhimes inked her first book deal! She signed with Simon & Schuster to write a book that’s “part memoir, part inspiration, part prescription,” that will publish in 2015, according to a Simon & Schuster press release. Good for you, Shonda! You know OWN’s had a wave of black guests consecutively on “Oprah’s Next Chapter” over the past few weeks. First it was Arsenio Hall, then Spike Lee, last week it was Al Sharpton and in two days it will be Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds turn. I remember Babyface when he and Antonio “L.A.” Reid were with The Deele (I loved their song “Shoot ‘Em Up Movies”– yes, I was a baby, LOL)  He’s lived quite the life and I wonder if TLC will come up, since the group was signed to LaFace Records and its biopic premiered recently. See the clips here.

On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand this weekend…
“Boardwalk Empire”: The season finale airs and I have to see how this beef between Chalky and Dr. Narcisse ends. It airs Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on HBO. [Watch here]
“The Walking Dead”: The last episode focused on the Governor’s return. It airs at 9 p.m. EST on AMC. [Watch here]
“Oprah’s Next Chapter”: Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds will talk to Oprah Winfrey about the music business, his divorce and more. It airs at 9 p.m. EST on OWN. [Watch here]

The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: President Barack Obama presenting Oprah Winfrey with the Presidential Medal of Freedom (She looked good receiving it, too!).
NOT: Taraji P. Henson’s character has been killed off of CBS’s “Person of Interest” (Some saw this coming since the reported issue she had about not being included on the cover of TV Guide with her cast mates).

HOT: Stylist June Ambrose impersonating “Scandal’s” Olivia Pope while plugging her new shows on HSN (It was cute.).
NOT: Chris Brown kicked out of an anger management rehab facility for acting violently (Hope Chris can get it together at new facility he’s been ordered to attend.).
