It’s been a devastating week for the crew of TNT reality show “Boston’s Finest” and the Boston Police Department after an officer featured on the series allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Boston police officer Pat Rogers, who appeared on seasons one and two of the show, reportedly took his own life just hours before TNT had scheduled a screening of the season 2 premiere, the Boston Herald is reporting. (The Boston screening, which executive producer Donnie Wahlberg and Boston Mayor Tom Menino were both expected to attend, was later canceled once producers learned the news of Rogers’ death.)

Boston’s Finest is a reality show that follows the lives of members of Boston’s Police Department — in action on the streets, and at home with their families. Rogers, a native of Dorchester, Mass., had been with the BPD for eight years and was described on the TNT series’ official website as “tough as any cop on the street.”

He was featured on several episodes of the first season, and was set to appear in the first episode of the upcoming second season. His bio also noted, “From his blue-collar upbringing in Dorchester to his unmistakable accent to his relaxed personality, Pat Rogers is a Boston guy.”

Wahlberg addressed Rogers’ tragic death via Twitter on Tuesday: “I am so deeply saddened tonight. My thoughts and prayers go out to a fallen brother of The Boston Police Dept.,” he wrote. The Boston native continued to mourn the late police officer the following day: “Forgive my lack of tweets today,” tweeted the normally chipper Wahlberg brother. “Working very hard, with a very heavy heart.”

The Boston Police Department also issued the following statement to the media: “The Boston PD is investigating the unfortunate death of a member of the department. At this time, the circumstances are under investigation, and the department asks that the media respect the privacy of the family at this time.”
