Another week, another win in the bottom two for Bill Engvall! The “Blue Collar” comedian triumphed over Leah Remini on Monday night, as he has all season over seemingly more skilled performers on “Dancing with the Stars.”
Bill made it through to next week’s “DWTS” finale with his partner Emma Slater, while his fellow bottom two dwellar Leah Remini and her pro Tony Dovolani were sent packing.
At the semifinal party after the show, Emma told xfinityTV she believes “DWTS’s” format change this season, in which the votes from the previous week and scores from the current week are combined, could be the reason for their amazing success.
“I do kind of feel like that’s sort of an advantage,” Emma said. “Only because it seems we’ve been in the bottom two for—well,” she laughed, “since we started, really! So it almost invokes people to go, ‘Oh, they’re in the bottom two,’ and then they vote, so our votes have possibly been going up and up.”
Meanwhile, Bill wasn’t sure if the “DWTS” downsizing this season, in which the show only airs one night a week, has led to his underdog run. “That’s a great question,” he said, deferring to Emma.
But then he said, “I think the fans would vote either way.”
Meanwhile, Derek Hough, who also made it into next week’s finale with his celebrity, “Glee” star Amber Riley, praised Bill’s success.
“The people have spoken,” Derek said about Bill’s fans voting him into the finale.
“His heart, his vulnerability, his genuineness and the people who watch the show really got him through.”
But the longtime “DWTS” pro and multiple mirror ball champ also thought Bill had truly earned his place in the finals with a solid Argentine tango on Monday night.
“Honestly, his Argentine tango, it was really good,” Derek said, speaking at the show’s after party at Mixology nightclub. “It was smooth. There were really creative lifts in there.”
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
