I was unsure if my girl (yes, we have yet to meet but she’s my girl) Amber Riley was going to go home during Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars.” As judge Carrie Ann Inaba noted, Riley “set the standard for this competition so, so very high” but her quickstep with partner Derek Hough was her worse performance of the season. She looked beautiful and stiff, messing up a step or two. “It needed to be a little cleaner,” judge Len Goodman said. The duo netted 24 out of 30 points. Turns out there’s a reason for the weak performance: Riley’s nursing two knee injuries. Hough says she “literally couldn’t walk” the day before. We know, we know, but there are only two weeks until the finals,  so you’ve got to soak up and suck it up. Fortunately, later in the show, the duo redeemed itself with the help of pro dancer Mark Ballas (he was Christina Milian’s partner). They performed an electrifying, sexy and fun salsa as part of the trio dance. Riley pushed through, moving like nobody’s business. She inspired me to want to get up and dance with my imaginary partner (I resisted). “You were like a ray of sunshine on a gloomy day,” Goodman praised. Inaba agreed, telling the trio, “You guys are like the dream team. That was just insane in the membrane!” The team garnered 27 out of 30 points. Now that’s more like it. Riley and Hough just may take home that mirrored ball. “Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. Watch past episodes here.
