SPOILER ALERT
It’s on! If you’ve been keeping up with HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” then you know that the beef between Chalky White and Dr. Valentin Narcisse just got real. In a scene that looked like it was straight out of Compton circa 1993, or Chicago (1923, 1993 or 2013—you choose), Chalky and his men shot up Narcisse’s office in a failed assassination attempt (this was retaliation for Narcisse’s own failed murder attempt and beating Daughter Maitland). Narcisse was unharmed, and later even emerged for a photo opp with the mayor (he’s a sly one, that Narcisse), while an injured Chalky went into hiding with the help of Richard Harrow. I’m not one for black-on-black violence but this war between Chalky and Narcisse is the most the series’ ever delved into its black characters’ lives. And it’s a shame Chalky and Narcisse couldn’t have worked something out. Even though the time period is 1920s America, Narcisse refuses to be treated as a second-class citizen, taking respect. I think this is one of the contributing factors to his having Mayor Ed Bader’s support and a partnership with Joe Masseria, albeit one rooted in narcotics.  He doesn’t allow the insulting antics that Chalky has tolerated, like when the white patron at the Onyx club rubbed the latter’s head for good luck. And now it seems the only true ally Chalky has is Nucky Thompson, who ignored a deal to personally deliver him to Narcisse. Instead, Nucky called in a favor to Bader to arrange to get Chalky and Daughter Maitland out of town only to later discover the accompanying Sheriff’s Deputies had orders to kill him. Fortunately Chalky followed his discerning spirit and was able to thwart their plans. Now he and his ride-or-die chick are on the run and killed two white law enforcement agents (wonder how that’ll play out) while his family is left distraught—and open to harm. You did see Narcisse getting closer to Chalky’s unsuspecting and newly single daughter, Maybelle? Uh huh …”Boardwalk Empire” airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO. Watch more “Boardwalk Empire” here.

Here’s what else is happening…

So Spike Lee and Tyler Perry may team up on movie someday? That’s what the Oscar-nominated filmmaker told Oprah Winfrey during Sunday’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter.” “I love Tyler … we’re mad cool now,” Lee told Winfrey, also sharing that he visited Perry’s house, something the media maven already knew. “And one day we might work together.” I’m glad that they’re cool, seriously. Lee has paved the way for a lot of filmmakers and has done something quite remarkable for black film. And Perry, whether you like his work or not, owns his own film and TV studio and was ranked as the highest paid man in Hollywood. I’m sure they can learn from one another. Lee, who’s been a heavy critic of Perry, says that the differences come down to a matter of taste. “It was the imagery. For me it was just taste,” he shared. Lee also spoke
on his feud with actor Samuel L. Jackson, who he gave his first film role in 1988′s “School Daze.” The two men haven’t worked together since 1991′s “Jungle Fever” and kind of had a falling out—though their wives remained tight—related to Lee’s criticism of director Quentin Tarantino. Jackson will appear in Lee’s film, “Oldboy” that premieres Nov. 27. Watch more clips from the program here.

Spike Lee on Tyler Perry

It’s pretty much an accepted fact that Idris Elba is fine. And even President Barack Obama can’t help but acknowledge  it, too. Elba says during a screening of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” last week at the White House, Obama made reference to female attendies clamoring for the actor’s attention. “I was sitting in the room with a massive head,” Elba said with a smile. I bet you were, with your handsome self. Read more here. And if you want to see women swooning over Elba, be sure to see  him as Charles Miner in season 5 of NBC”s “The Office.” Check it out hereAngela Bassett will return to “American Horror Story” next season? Apparently she and Kathy Bates have impressed show creators during their current run on “American Horror Story: Coven” that they’ve been asked back. Both have reportedly accepted. I’m a fan of both women, as I’ve expressed previously, and am glad they’re coming back again. “Coven” is good and I’m the anthological series gained more viewers with their addition. Don’t believe me? Check it out here. While we’re on scary topics, be sure to check out the latest episode of “The Walking Dead.” Trust me, you will be on the edge, wondering who’ll be turned into a Walker next. Oh, and someone returns! Watch it here.
