Matt Lauer and Al Roker Have Prostate Exams on TV: Watch

Matt Lauer and Al Roker underwent prostate examinations Thursday on “The Today Show.”

“Let me give you a huge compliment,” said Dr. David Samadi, chairman of urology at Manhattan’s Lenox Hill Hospital, at the start of the segment. “We’re going to save a lot of men with prostate cancer.”

The doctor was referring to the fact that, inevitably, medical segments such as this one on a national TV show such as “Today,” usually do have the effect of reaching people who might not otherwise undergo such an exam.

In the segment, Dr. Samadi conducted a “digital rectal” examination on both Lauer and Roker. The exams were conducted separately and behind closed doors — which is to say: You’re not going to see Lauer’s or Roker’s bare bum if you watch our clip above.

But the segment, which also featured NBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman, was filled with information of vital importance about prostate health, particularly the benefits of early-detection in heading off — and hopefully curing — prostate cancer.

Watch this invaluable clip — above.
