SPOILER ALERT

“American Horror Story: Coven” delivered an early Halloween treat for us last night. We learned exactly what Marie Laveau meant when she told Cordelia that her mother, Fiona, “done messed with the wrong witch.”  Madame Laveau was not playing with her vengeance, summoning zombies that would make the walkers from “The Walking Dead” look wholesome.Although the circumstances sucked, my favorite scene was from the show’s opening, a flashback to 1961 New Orleans when a  boy was lynched for integrating a high school. When the camera showed Marie standing at the scene, hand on hip and a stern expression across her face, you knew that the situation was handled. She summoned the dead and they took care of the murderous men. Yep, Marie just bumped “Scandal’s” Olivia Pope from the No. 1 spot on my fixer list. LOL. I get that black slaves taught white Salem witches the power and magic that Fiona and her crew hold today but I’m still unclear on the source of the rivalry. Perhaps I need to review earlier episodes. We do know that Marie was sent over the edge when the head of her lover from earlier decades (like 16 decades), Bastien-turned-homemade-Minotaur, was delivered to her modern-day salon. The truce between her and the witches (aren’t they all witches?) was essentially nullified and she began summoning again. The episode closes with several zombies, including the daughters of Marie Delphine LaLaurie (an old Laveau foe responsible for the Minotaur), overrunning the Academy (It’s Halloween, who’ll notice?).  But before we got to that scene, we also learned that Fiona, ever obsessed with youth and power, apparently acted too hastily when she murdered Madison, believing she was the next Supreme (Madison was doing some cool things; she was like Carrie!). Oh, the look on Fiona’s face was priceless. I think, and basically assumed from the get-go, that the next Supreme is her daughter, Cordelia. I think Cordelia’s smarter than her mother thinks and she has yet to show her potential. So I rewatched the episode and am having to rethink Cordelia as the next Supreme after the acid being thrown in her face.  Now, if she heals herself, then I stand by what I wrote earlier. That husband of hers though … You’re going to lie and cheat on your wife knowing she’s a witch and her mother is powerful and doesn’t like you? Play with your life if you want, Hank? But why did he shoot his lover? Can we also take a moment to talk about Marie looking good over this 170-year span? I mean, we see her in 2013, the 1800s, 1960s and in 19’70s sporting a fierce natural, signing a truce with the then-Supreme witch. Talk about black not crackin’. Fiona may not have Marie’s youthful looks but wasn’t that an awesome trick she used to revive Queenie? She reminded me of a Mord Sith from “Legend of the Seeker.”  And the Council of Witchcraft, as someone noted on Twitter, the members’ appearances just fulfills every stereotype of witches. LOL. There’s still much to see like the Zoe-Zack situation (he’s on the loose) and Misty, the girl who can’t die. Good stuff! “Coven” airs at 10 p.m. EST Wednesdays on FX.

Happy Halloween! Check out the latest of episode of “American Horror Story: Coven”

On my watchlist tonight? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand with…
“Scandal”: Lisa Kudrow’s character may cause a riff between Olivia and Fitz. It airs at 10 p.m. EST tonight on ABC. [Watch here]
“Late Night with Jimmy Fallon”: Kerry Washington will be a guest. It airs at 12:35 a.m. EST tonight on NBC. [Watch here]

The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: Miley Cyrus and Ellen DeGeneres dressing up as Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj, respectively, for Halloween (They didn’t darken their skin and were still recognizable).
NOT: Omarosa Manigault appearing on Bethenny Frankel’s fledgling talk show as a possible ratings booster (“Bethenny’s” struggling with ratings and someone thought Manigault would help.).

HOT: Serge Ibaka and Keri Hilson dressed as “Coming to America’s” Prince Hakeem in a McDowell’s uniform and Lisa McDowell, respectively, for Halloween (Too cute!).
NOT: People dressing up as a deceased Trayvon Martin, with blackface, blood and all,  for Halloween (When people show you who they are, believe them).
