After “Dancing with the Stars” announced Cher would be a guest judge on next week’s show, the competitors and their partners told reporters they “Believe” the role will suit her perfectly.
The pop singer, Oscar-winning movie star, and TV actress will sub for Judge Len Goodman and also perform her classic song “Believe” and her new single “I Hope You Find It” on Nov. 4’s “DWTS” episode.
“I think it’s going to be great and I can’t wait to see her,” Bill Engvall told xfinityTV. “I get to meet one of my idols!”
Elizabeth Berkley said, “I’ve loved her for a long time. I’m excited.”
According to Corbin Bleu, Cher is “the ultimate entertainer. She knows dance; she’s been around it. Whether or not it’s the ballroom technique, she knows how to perform and she knows how to judge a performance itself. Everybody comes out with great technique, but the performances you really love are when they come out and just light up the stage, so she’s going to know what to do.”
Corbin’s partner, Karina Smirnoff, recalled that Cher also already knows her way around the ballroom as her son, Chaz Bono, appeared on “DWTS” during Season 13 in 2011.
“I’m excited to have Cher in the ballroom. I remember when she came to support Chaz,” Karina said. “Everybody was literally just watching her the whole show and she has so inspired so many ideas and outfits. Every time Cher’s performing, you wonder what she’s going to wear.”
Corbin enthused, “She needs to have seven different costume changes. She needs to continue to change throughout the night, a bunch of different outfits.”
The dance partners also spilled the beans, revealing the celebrities and their partners will be dancing to Cher’s songs during the show next week.
Corbin said, “I’m just nervous … to be dancing to her song and having her judging it. It’s crazy.”
Corbin and Karina will do the Argentine tango and there aren’t many options of a Cher song that would work, but the dance pro smiled to reporters, “I did my research and I think I know what it is. I literally spent an hour listening to all the Cher songs. It’s really obvious when you hear it—[I thought] this has to be it.” But Karina’s keeping her lips sealed for now on the musical choice!
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
