Comcast NBCUniversal is proud to once again sponsor the Aspen Institute Communications and Society Program’s Symposium on the State of Race in America, to be held on April 8, 2014, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The event explores new attitudes, opportunities and challenges for and about people of color in 21st Century America. It has become a seminal opportunity for meaningful discussion on difficult questions surrounding race-related policies in this country. In the past three years, the Symposium has engaged more than 36 distinguished thought leaders from non-profit, business, government, media and academic fields to discuss the role of race and racism in the United States with over 250 in attendance and thousands online.
The 2013 Symposium featured panel discussions on the “Demographics of Race,” “The Impact of Faith-based Communities on Race Relations,” “Youth,” and “Media and Popular Culture.” Guest speakers included: Christina Downs, Editor-in-Chief,The Hilltop, Howard University, Brian Yang, Actor, “Hawaii Five-0,” Jasjit Singh, Executive Director, Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Lisa Wong, Mayor of Fitchburg, Massachusetts
