In an embarrassing “Dancing With the Stars” snafu, the show posted the wrong voting phone numbers during Monday night’s East Coast broadcast.
In a statement issued after the show, ABC blamed “technical difficulties” for the phone foul-up.
“There were technical difficulties with posting the voting numbers on the East Coast broadcast,” said an ABC statement. “We’re reviewing the data and will determine the best course of action. The errors were fixed for both Mountain and West Coast broadcasts.”
But the blunder had some of the “DWTS” cast members in a tizzy.
“[During] the East Coast feed, they had our number as Snooki’s number and Snooki’s number as our number,” said actor Corbin Bleu, who is one of the show’s front runners so far this season with pro partner Karina Smirnoff. “You can’t control it. The fans have the numbers [but] it’s one of those scary things. You have to just roll with the punches,” Corbin said, as Karina made plans to tell their fans about the problem via Twitter.
Meanwhile, Bill Engvall’s pro partner, Emma Slater, sighed, “Somebody came up to us and said there was a system error and Bill’s number got switched with Elizabeth [Berkley’s] number. I don’t know how that happened.”
But, Bill said, “I’m not going to worry about it. People when they call, it says, ‘Hey, thanks for voting for Bill or Liz’ and hopefully, if someone’s voting for the wrong number, they’ll go, wow, OK.”
“We’ve gone so much further than I thought we’d go and so every week, we’re just living on gravy,” said the Blue Collar comedian, whose waltz with Emma drew positive judges’ comments on Monday and allowed him to move on to Week Six.
“If next week’s our week [to go], then so be it,” Bill shrugged. “There’s nothing we can do about it.”
And, he pointed out, “Anybody who’s voted for us the last five weeks will know the [right] number.”
