Bob Odenkirk, star of the just-ended “Breaking Bad,” and Glenn Howerton, star of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” have joined the cast of FX’s “Fargo.”

The cast will also include “Private Practice” star Kate Walsh and Oliver Platt, as well as earlier announced cast members Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks and “Hobbit” star Martin Freeman.

The 10-episode limited series adaptation of the 1996 Coen Brothers’ film of the same name will feature an all-new “true crime” story, following a new case and new characters, all entrenched in the trademark humor, murder and “Minnesota nice” that made the film an enduring classic.

Thornton stars as Lorne Malvo, a rootless, manipulative man who meets and forever changes the life of small town insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Freeman). Hanks plays Duluth Police Deputy Gus Grimly, a single dad who must choose between endangering his life or maintaining his personal safety when he comes face-to-face with a killer.

Odenkirk, coming off his run as ethically shaky lawyer Saul Goodman on “Breaking Bad,” will play Deputy Bill Olson, a Bemidji deputy with seniority over his younger, smarter and more ambitious fellow deputy, Molly Solverson (Allison Tolman).

Platt (“The Big C”) will portray Stavros Milos, billed as the Supermarket King of Minnesota. Walsh, meanwhile, is taking on the role of Gina Hess, a former stripper and mother of teenaged twin boys.

Howerton will play Don Chumph, an ambitious personal trainer.

Production on “Fargo” will begin in November in Calgary, Alberta, for a 2014 premiere date.
