Now that we know Rowan is Olivia Pope’s father and that he didn’t try to murder her (but their relationship is complicated) people want to know who should play Mama Pope? In last week’s “Scandal” season 3 premiere we learned more about Liv’s background and that her mother, according to government files, is deceased. That doesn’t mean we won’t see her; there’s always flashbacks (And is she really dead?). So who should be cast as her? When tackling such important matters, I often turn to the best source available, my girls. And they always have an opinion. The usual suspects initially popped up — Phylicia Rashad, Angela Bassett and Alfre Woodard.  “I think I like Alfre Woodard and Phylicia Rashad best. They’re bother talented actors and both have the beauty and poise to pull off being Liv’s mom,” one girlfriend said. Lynn Whitfield, who my sister says can play cray-cray pretty good (See “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate” and “Madea’s Family Reunion.”), would be good depending on the character.  But I was a little surprised when one friend offered, “Another possibility – [Diahann] Carroll would be fierce.” while another suggested Cicely Tyson because she and Kerry Washington have great chemistry. As much as I love the AARP crowd, ageism reared its head. I thought these ladies could play a grandmother, I mean, Joe Morton, who’s Daddy Pope, turns 66 next week, and these ladies are approaching 80. But my girls got me straight. One wrote, “Anyways, men aren’t the only ones going younger…could add an interesting twist. :).” Check! And, didn’t Halle Berry just have a baby at 47?! Last week, I wrote my support for Bassett and Rashad, the latter who Morton named as his choice. And I think they’re still good options. And it would be cool if we got to see Bassett on ”American Horror Story: Coven” and “Scandal” this season. In the end, we know it’s up to show creator Shonda Rhimes and her team. Maybe they’ll select someone under the radar, like Morton, who’ll blow us away. Hmm. Watch the season 3 premiere here. ”Scandal” airs at 10 p.m. EST tonight on ABC.

Here’s what else caught my attention …

Kanye West on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” you know between the run-on sentences, stories about fashion snobs and warnings to paps, he said a few things that made sense.I dug what he said about false humility and that he refers to himself as a “creative genius.” I feel you have to speak your life into existence, even if yours are the only ears hearing it. I didn’t read egomaniacal like I had in the past. And it’s apparent, too, that he loves and respects his late mother, Dr. Donda West, and loves his daughter, North, and her mother, reality TV star Kim Kardashian. My fave Mr. West line of the night inspired me to launch a circa 1990s T-shirt line. The front would read, “Never think that I’m not from Chicago for one second…” while the back would say South Side (or whatever area you’re from). Hot idea, right?

Speaking of hot, did you catch the “Preachers of L.A.” premiere? It wasn’t the ratchet mess I imagined (Oxygen did greenlight “All My Babies’ Mommas”) and reminded me of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” season 1 with Pastor Jay Haizlip as the Kim Zolciak of the show. The real takeaway: preaching can be very lucrative. These dudes are balling out of control! See for yourself here… And while we’re on the topic of spirituality, did you catch “American Horror Story: Coven” last night? Told you it was good. We only saw Angela Bassett as Madame Marie Laveau for all of 2 minutes (some Tweeple weren’t happy with that) but what a powerful 2 minutes! “Coven” has cast a spell on me, find out why here. And finally, “South Park’s'” attempt to address Trayvon Martin’s death last night was … well, let’s just say I’m surprised co-creator Matt Stone’s black wife OK’d this one. See it here and tell me what you think. Watching that episode reminded me of last week’s “Law & Order: SVU’s” failed mash-up of the Trayvon Martin and Paula Deen cases. Both series’ attempts left me underwhelmed. Watch “SVU” here.

On my watchlist tonight? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand with……
“Scandal”: I want to know what’s in that manilla folder! It airs at 10 p.m. EST on ABC. [Watch here]
“Ironside”: “American Horror Story: Coven” won out so I’ll watch Ironside kick butt on XFINITY later. [Watch here]
“Vampire in Brooklyn”: I haven’t seen this in a minute and it’s on XFINITY. [Watch here]

The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” guests bidding to kiss actor Shemar Moore kissing for breast cancer research (This is debatable, but I’ll keep it positive)
NOT: Tech companies having very little or no women and/ or people of color as board members (Epic FAIL!).

HOT: Apparently, Michael B. Jordan is being considered for a key role in the J.J. Abram’s directed “Star Wars: Episode 7″ (Very possible he’ll be cast and he worked with “Star Wars” creator George Lucas on “Red Tails.”).
NOT: Actor Craig Robinson detained over drug possession at a Bahamas airport (Craig, c’mon, you know better).

HOT: “American Horror Story” is back (Fans have been waiting for this!)!
NOT: Angela Bassett on-screen for less than 3 minutes in “American Horror Story: Coven” premiere (It seems she and Gabby Sidibe are only guest stars this season)
