A Fox News Channel anchor’s gaffe over the weekend became funny fodder for the late-night shows Monday night — including “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” which handled the situation in its own unique, hilarious way. (Watch the video, above.)
Fox News anchor Anna Kooiman earned her way into various late-night comedy bits and monologues when she reported Saturday that President Obama was personally funding some sort of Museum of Muslim Culture. She told the story while expressing her outrage that the shutdown of the federal government has resulted in the closing of many national historic sites, most notably the National World War II Memorial in Washington. She was trying to express that it was somehow ironic that the WWII Memorial was closed to veterans who traveled hundreds of miles to visit it, while the president supports a museum for Muslims.
But there was a big problem with the story: It was untrue, and she apparently picked it up from a satirical Web site and believed it to be a true news story. She apologized later but the cat was out of the bag and she was targeted Monday night on the late-night shows.
