Leah Remini is determined to do well on “Dancing with the Stars” — because she thinks a lot of people want her to fail, namely Scientologists.
For the first time on the show, the actress discussed her recent high-profile departure from the controversial Church of Scientology – and the huge toll it has taken on her emotionally.
“I’m going through a personal, um, big change for me and my family,” Remini said to her dance partner Tony Dovolani during the pair’s rehearsal package on Monday night’s show.
“The church is looking for me to fail,” she said, “so they can say, ‘see what happens when you leave the church’…like, they’re waiting for me to fail.”
Not surprisingly, the Church of Scientology says they don’t share Remini’s viewpoint.
In response to Remini’s comments, a rep for the the church issued a statement Tuesday to “Good Morning America,” saying bluntly:
“We know this may come as a surprise to someone as self-absorbed as Ms. Remini, but we could care less if she wins or loses on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’”
So yeah, it sounds like that break-up is going well.
Either way, failure doesn’t seem to be an option for Remini, so far.
The judges loved Leah and Tony’s samba, with the judges giving the pair a score of 24.
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
