In a “Dancing with the Stars” Monday night surprise, the show’s former dance pro Julianne Hough told viewers she’ll be guest judging the competition in two weeks when she fills in for Len Goodman.
The blonde beauty, who left to pursue a movie career after winning “DWTS” twice—with partners Apolo Anton Ohno and Helio Castroneves—is excited to sit at the judges’ table and give her critiques alongside Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba.
And after the show, Julianne’s brother, Derek Hough, told xfinityTV what he thought about the move.
“It’s so unfair,” Derek joked. “She’s going to kill me. She’ going to be like, ‘Remember that time when you pulled the head off my Barbie when we were kids?’ That’s what you get.’
“I gotta do something when I’m there listening to her,” Derek said, hinting at a possible practical joke.
But seriously, Derek said, “She’s going to be an amazing judge and it will be a perfect match. She’s been on the show before and she has a brilliant mind and a phenomenal eye and she’s going to judge to fairly.”
Since her time on “DWTS,” Julianne has appeared in such movies as “Footloose,” “Rock of Ages,” and “Safe Haven,” but she’s happy to return to her “DWTS” family anytime, Derek said.
“Dancing will always be a part of our life,” confided the longtime pro, who is performing with “Glee’s” Amber Riley this season. “When you see the Hugh Jackmans and all these other actors—they do it all. They do theater, Broadway, a one-man show, or whatever it is. This [guest judge job] is kind of cool because this is where she started.”
When asked if Maksim Chmerkovskiy would ever come back to guest judge, however, Derek laughed, “That’s different!” and didn’t elaborate.
On Sunday night, Derek won an Emmy for outstanding choreography, and then had a bizarre “dance off” with “Breaking Bad” star Dean Norris at the AMC after party.
“I’m not going to lie. I was moving a little slow today because I was dancing so hard last night after it. Dean set it off and I said, ‘Let’s do this!’ It was so fun. I was doing Gene Kelly, the knee walks.”
Meanwhile, Derek isn’t the only one looking forward to seeing his sister back at “DWTS.”
Longtime “DWTS” pro Cheryl Burke also told xfinityTV about Julianne’s guest-judge gig, “I think she knows what the show’s all about and she’s been a part of it. Why not? She was born dancing. She’s got a lot of experience.”
“Dancing with the Stars” airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
