Dancing with the Stars” has long been the perfect place for stars to change their image. On Monday night’s “DWTS” season 17 premiere, former “Jersey Shore” reality TV firebrand Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi sought to prove she wasn’t a party girl anymore. Polizzi and partner Sasha Farber got a strong score of 23 for their cha cha and after the show, she spoke to xfinityTV about the premiere.

“DWTS” Premiere Recap:
A Powerful Start to Season 17

Tell me about tonight.
NP: Tonight was awesome! I feel really really good and it was different than what I expected. I thought I was going to be nervous but I felt like I just had fun.

What was going through your head while you were dancing?
NP: I can’t breathe! What am I doing? I can’t believe I’m doing this. I miss my son. I’m thinking of everything.

Was your son Lorenzo backstage?
NP: No, he’s at home [in New Jersey] because I just feel like he’s not ready to come out here [to Los Angeles]. He just turned 1 and I’m scared with everyone [around].

Was your husband in the audience?
NP: Yes. It was really nice to see him and my parents were here. When I saw him, it kind of eased my nerves.

Do you think you changed people’s minds about you tonight?
NP: I mean, maybe. That’s what I’m hoping for. Either way, it is what it is. This is me. Take it or leave it!

How are you feeling physically?
NP: I’m exhausted. I want to take these heels off, put jammies on, and go to sleep. We’re flying home [to New Jersey] on the red eye so I’ll sleep on the plane. We rehearse in Jersey where I live with my family and we’re going to fly out to do the show. I can’t leave my son. You do what you gotta do!

Tell me about your show “Snooki & JWoww,” Season 3.
NP: That premieres Oct. 22nd. You get to see definitely a different side of me because I’m being a mother to my son. [JWoww] is still crazy but I feel like she’s grown into herself; she’s engaged. I feel like we both grew up as women. I had a great time.

Will JWoww [Jennifer Farley] be visiting “DWTS”?
NP: Yeah, when she’s in L.A. she’s definitely going to come! That’s in October if we’re still here [dancing].
