To put a new twist on an old phrase, YOU are watching “Big Brother” — so it’s been renewed for a 16th season, CBS announced Thursday.

The announcement comes just six days before the 90-minute finale of Season 15 next Wednesday night (Sept. 18) starting at 9:30/8:30c.

Hosted by Julie Chen, “Big Brother” premiered way back in the summer of 2000, at around the same time as another CBS reality series that became an even bigger phenomenon — “Survivor.”

But despite some seasons that saw lean ratings, “Big Brother” has hung in there to become a CBS staple every summer. Expect Season 16 to air in summer 2014.

A companion series, “Big Brother After Dark,” was also renewed. It will continue to be seen on the cable channel known as TVGN (formerly known as TV Guide Network).
