The music producer known as “Dr. Luke” is reportedly inching closer to seizing the third judge’s spot on the new season of “American Idol.”

The producer — aka Lukasz Gottwald, 39 — has been a rumored front-runner for the position for about a week.

Now, a Deadline.com report has him “closing a deal” that will secure him a seat beside fellow judges Keith Urban and, reportedly, Jennifer Lopez.

In addition, original judge Randy Jackson — who formerly was believed to be leaving “Idol” after 12 seasons — is reportedly still in the running for a mentor’s position, replacing music producer Jimmy Iovine.

Except for the certainty that Urban is returning for the 13th season of “Idol” due to get under way in January, neither Fox officials nor any “Idol” producers have commented publicly or otherwise confirmed the hiring of Lopez or the negotiations with “Dr. Luke” or Randy Jackson.
