The cable channel’s press release cited continued strength in the ratings this summer for all three shows, as well as “Falling Skies,” which was renewed earlier this summer for a fourth season.
Specifically, “Rizzoli & Isles” — starring Angie Harmon (Rizzoli) and Sasha Alexander (Isles) — was renewed for a fifth season, TNT said. The series is now in the midst of its fourth season, which will break off in the middle on Sept. 10, then return for the remainder of the fourth season in early 2014, the cable channel said. The 15-episode fifth season will commence next summer.
“Major Crimes,” starring Mary McDonnell and most of the cast of “The Closer,” was renewed for a third season. Under a plan similar to the schedule for “Rizzoli & Isles,” the current second season of “Major Crimes” will go on hiatus next Monday (Aug. 19) and will return for the rest of its second-season episodes in November. A 15-episode Season Three will start next summer.
As for “Perception,” the Eric McCormack series has been renewed for a third season. “Perception” has also received a 15-episode pickup for a third season that will also premiere next summer. In the meantime, the show’s second season breaks off Aug. 27 and will return in early 2014.
TNT also announced a premiere date for an additional, new drama series from “Shawshank Redemption” and “Walking Dead” producer/director Frank Darabont. His new series “Mob City” — about L.A. gangsters in the late 1940s and 1950s — premieres Dec. 4.
