Playing Dwight Eisenhower in “The Butler” isn’t the only crazy thing Robin Williams is doing this summer.

His other “crazy” project is “The Crazy Ones,” a new CBS sitcom coming this fall that represents Williams’ return to TV after a 32-year absence.

Jay Leno asked Williams about the new show when Williams appeared on “The Tonight Show” Thursday night.

“You’re coming back to TV,” Jay said to raise the subject.

“Yeah, after 32 years,” said Williams, referring to his show business breakthrough playing a befuddled alien from outer space in “Mork and Mindy” on ABC.

“So who are you playing?” Leno asked him, referring to “The Crazy Ones,” but, as far we can recall, never mentioning the name of the new show or the network it will be on.

“I play an ad executive who runs a micro ad agency in Chicago with my daughter, who’s played by Sarah Michelle Gellar,” Williams answered. “She’s wonderful. It’s so great after 32 years to be back on TV.”

And Leno then reminded Williams that their friendship goes back at least to the start of “Mork and Mindy.”

“We all started out together,” said Leno, 63. “And we went to the first taping of this new show ‘Mork and Mindy.’ We all went to the pilot,” he said, apparently referring to a group of comedians around the same age who went to the taping to show their support for Williams.

“That went on to be the hugest hit of all time,” Leno said (perhaps exaggerating the success of “M&M”). “Do you feel any pressure this time around?” he asked Williams, 62. “Is it more relaxed?”

“I think more relaxed because when we started off 32 years ago, there were only three networks so the competition was small, but now it’s just an open field, but the idea is to try and do the best you can,” Williams said.

Williams is playing President Eisenhower in the summer movie “The Butler,” starring Forest Whitaker as a White House butler who served six presidents.
