Two original cast members are set to depart “The Mentalist” this year.

Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman will be leaving the show toward the end of the upcoming sixth season, according to TV Line.

The planned departures of Van Pelt (Righetti) and Rigsby (Yeoman) is expected to tie into this fall’s long-awaited reveal of Red John, the overarching mystery of the CBS procedural that has been six years in the making.

While producers won’t comment on the report, series creator Bruno Heller tells EW of the upcoming season, “This is the most dramatic and game changing season and anything can happen.”

“They’ve always been in love with each other,” he added of the pair. “As we get closer to Red John, all of the team members will start thinking about their major life decisions.”

A recent casting notice also points toward the actors’ exits, as TV Line reported last week, two new “Mentalist” cast members (a male and a female) will be introduced some time in early 2014 … presumably to replace the departing doomed? duo.

Season 6 of “The Mentalist” premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10/9c on CBS.
