Jimmy Kimmel gave his old friend Ben Stein an opportunity to set the record straight about Stein’s sexuality.

Not that we’ve ever heard anyone express any curiosity about it, but Stein is not gay, he told Kimmel Thursday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Stein, 68, “came out” as a heterosexual after Jimmy asked him about a statement posted recently on Stein’s Facebook page in which Stein seemed to reveal he’s been a homosexual all of his life.

“It was a hack job,” Stein said, blaming an unidentified miscreant for posting the message on Stein’s Facebook page.

He told Kimmel he was impressed by the reaction to the bogus “news” that he was gay. He said his Facebook page was filled with congratulatory messages from strangers telling Stein how happy they were for him. And Jimmy read several of them aloud.

The phony message in which Stein seemed to out himself went like this: “Hey, everyone, I have a public service announcement. … I’m coming out [of] the closet today!!! I’m officially happy A1 homosexual! It’s extremely stressful now I feel so relieved to get this off my chest and invite my man on my chest!”

Stein and Kimmel have been close friends for 20 years because Stein’s old Comedy Central game show, “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” which Kimmel co-hosted, was the show that really made Kimmel’s TV career.

In Part Two of their interview, the multi-faceted Stein talked about the thing he’s best-known for: His role in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
