NBC’s “Fashion Star” has fizzled out.
The network has cancelled the fashion design reality competition series after two seasons, NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed Saturday to reporters at the TCA Television Critics Association Press Tour in Beverly Hills.
Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and John Varvatos starred as the celebrity mentors to a collection of aspiring designers looking to hook major retail buyers like Macy’s, Saks and Express into buying their garments. Style maven Louise Roe served as the host (replacing original host Elle MacPherson) for Season 2.
After decent ratings for its first season, “Fashion Star” became a victim of its time-slot once the network moved it from its original Tuesday night slot to Friday nights (aka the “TV Graveyard”). The second-season ratings had a sharp drop-off, however, with episodes averaging a meager 0.7 in the Adults 18-49 demo and 2.76 million total viewers, down from the first-season average of over 4 million total viewers per episode.
