Alias” star Michael Vartan is checking into the “Bates Motel” for a key recurring role on the upcoming second season of the A&E thriller.

Vartan has been cast as the new love interest for Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga, who just scored an Emmy nom for the provocative role), TV Line reports. His character is a “charming divorcee” named George who captures Norma’s affections, and considering the death rate of Norma’s former lovers, that’s a very dangerous proposition.

Vartan’s casting is the latest addition to the ensemble for Season 2, which will also introduce two other new characters: Norma’s estranged brother and one of Norma’s female besties, according to TV Line.

And Norma will likely need a few new shoulders to lean on after she learns what Norman (Freddie Highmore) did in the shocking first-season finale: He killed the school teacher Miss Watson!

The second season of “Bates Motel” is slated to premiere next winter on A&E.
