New York Mets pitching phenom Matt Harvey is the most talked-about baseball player in New York this season. And he’s Tuesday night’s National League starter in the All-Star Game.

But even the most hard-core Mets fans didn’t recognize him when he interviewed them on the street Monday for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”

He even interviewed them on the subject of “Matt Harvey” — with hilarious results that you can watch in the clip, above.

Harvey, 24 — now in his second season in the big leagues — has a won-loss record of 7-2 going into the All-Star break. The right-hander out of New London, Conn., was named the National League’s starting pitcher on Monday. It just so happens that this year’s All-Star Game — which will be broadcast live on Fox starting at 8/7c on Tuesday — will be played at Harvey’s home stadium, CitiField in Queens, N.Y.

But despite his being the main attraction of the All-Star Game in the Big Apple, Met fans didn’t know who they were talking to when he approached them with a “Late Night” microphone in Bryant Park, in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Watch, above.
