“Veronica Mars” is now approaching its third life.
First, the one-time television series pulled together enough money to hit the big screen. Now comes word that the series will live on after the movie in book form.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that Vintage Books has locked in “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas and Alloy Entertainment to a two-book deal that will publish a new slate of stories based on the adult life of the character, played by Kristen Bell.
The books will serve as an “original mystery series featuring a grown-up Veronica Mars and characters from the series.
The plot will pick up where events of the forthcoming Veronica Mars movie, slated for a 2014 release, end.” The first book is scheduled to hit the shelves in spring 2014.
“I started my career as a novelist. Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel. I’m thrilled that I’m going to get the opportunity to continue telling Veronica Mars stories in a form I’ve loved and missed,” said Thomas to the publication.
Meanwhile, the “Veronica Mars” movie, which was made possible thanks to more than $5.5 million in fund raising via the an online Kickstarter campaign, is currently in production in Los Angeles.
