Showtime has issued an early release of the pilot episode of its new drama “Ray Donovan,” and you can watch it here.

In his first leading television role, Liev Schreiber stars as the title character, one of the best professional “fixers” in Los Angeles, Hollywood’s playground. He’s the man you call when your troubled starlets, naughty pro athletes and power-hungry moguls mess up — Ray Donovan cleans it up.

But Ray the fixer needs some fixing of his own when his dirty rotten scoundrel of a father, Mickey Donovan, played by Jon Voight, is unexpectedly released from prison and starts threatening visiting his son and his family.

On playing the heavy’s even more menacing pop, Oscar-winner Voight told reporters:

“I’ve played some pretty, you know, strange characters, and people come up to me constantly and say, ‘You know, you play such a great villain.’ So probably some of that work landed me this part, but it’s a very complex character, Mickey, and there’s quite a lot to come from him. He’s a dangerous fellow to himself and to others, but he’s got a lot of dimension. So I’m really very challenged, and I’m excited to be playing the part.”

For Schrieber, his character is carved from the “action speaks louder than words” mold — Ray Donovan doesn’t mince words.

“The older I get, the more I look for less lines,” Schrieber joked. “I think that’s probably one of the things that drew me to Ray as a character is that he didn’t talk much. It’s a nice quality. You know, for me, as someone who feels compelled to talk more than I should in many situations, it’s very healthy for me to play a character like this.”

The series officially premieres on Sunday, June 30, at 10/9c on Showtime, right after the eighth season premiere of “Dexter,” airing at 9/8c.
