When the fifth season of “Nurse Jackie,” which concludes Sunday night, debuted this spring, O’Hara dropped a bombshell on her BFF Jackie by announcing that she was moving back to London with her son.

Now it seems co-star Eve Best has checked out of the Showtime series for good. After making a series of pre-taped appearances for this season’s storyline, the actress has decided she will not return at all next season.

“It was her choice,” executive producer Richie Jackson confirms to TV Line. “She wanted to move back to London and devote time to theatre work there.”

Now Edie Falco’s Nurse Jackie will have to manage her work traumas and personal dramas without her colleague and confidante, although the two will be reunited briefly on this Sunday’s Season 5 finale.

An original cast member, Best has played Dr. Eleanor O’Hara since the series premiered in June 2009.

Showtime recently announced the critically acclaimed dramedy has been renewed for a sixth season to premiere in 2014.

The fifth-season finale of “Nurse Jackie” airs Sunday at 9/8c on Showtime.
