Pamela Anderson TV Ad Banned in U.K. for Being ‘Sexist,’ ‘Degrading’

Pamela Anderson’s famous curves are causing a commotion again.

A sexy new TV ad starring the blonde bombshell has been banned in Britain for being “sexist and degrading to women.”

Anderson’s commercial for Dreamscape Networks’ web-hosting company Crazy Domains features the “Baywatch” beauty dressed in business attire presenting to a boardroom full of men with the help of a female assistant. The scene transforms into a dream sequence as one of the men fantasizes about the women dancing in bikinis and being covered in cream.

Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority has ruled that the commercial can no longer air after receiving four complaints that the spot was offensive and gratuitous.

The ad had initially been given clearance to air after 9 p.m. by Clearcast, the organization that vets ads before broadcast, citing that Anderson, 45, was a “celebrity who was known for flaunting her body.”

In explaining the ruling, the ASA said, “Whilst we noted Dreamscape Networks’ and Clearcast’s comments about the female characters being portrayed as strong, confident business women, we considered that they were also portrayed sexually throughout the ad, not just during the fantasy sequence.”

“Although the fantasy scene, which we considered was sexually suggestive, was limited to Adam’s imagination, we considered it gave the impression that he viewed his female colleagues as sexual objects to be lusted after,” the ASA continued. “Because of that, we considered the ad was likely to cause serious offense to some viewers on the basis that it was sexist and degrading to women.”

Dreamscape Networks defended the ad, arguing that it was intended to be “over-the-top” and “comical.”
