Death becomes “Dexter.” But fans prefer Miami Metro’s blood-spatter expert looming over the kill table not being plastic-wrapped-and-strapped to it!
Showtime has released the first official full-length trailer for the eighth and final season of “Dexter,” and it’s a doozey.
The first scenes that strike us though are the seemingly spoilery ones that reveal Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) is on a very dark downward spiral after killing LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) in the shocking Season 7 finale.
“I shot the wrong person in that trailer,” a bitter Deb growls to her brother. In another scene an angry Deb is heard declaring: “I want to make an official statement.” Is she turning on Dex? Is she turning him in???
Season 8 picks up about six months after Deb made that fateful choice between killing her brother or killing a fellow cop and friend, and she’s now feeling “lost,” consumed with remorse and regret … and a new undercover assignment may be providing a morbid mask for Deb’s descent into drugs. (We knew there would be consequences for Deb this season, but hitting rock bottom on a drugs-capade?)
The extended footage also reveals viewers’ first glimpse at Season 8 guest star Charlotte Rampling as Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a neuro-psychiatrist who specializes in the brain chemistry of psychopaths. When she starts working a case with Miami Metro, she’s also offering Dexter’s co-workers a first-hand look at Dexter’s Dark Passenger — and may be sniffing out his secret.
So while they may not be in the traditional form of the show’s “Big Bads,” it sure seems as if Dexter’s final-season foes are the good doctor … and his sister Deb.
“The final season is about a sense of legacy,” series star Michael C. Hall says in a new behind-the-scenes interview released by Showtime. “It’s about what Dexter’s going to leave behind.”
That adds some more evidence to support the theory that everybody’s favorite serial killer is not going to make it out of this final season alive. “Dexter” Final Season First Look: Is Dexter Morgan Going to Die?
“It will blow your mind,” sums up co-star James Remar, who plays Dexter’s dear old (dead) dad.
The Season 8 premiere of “Dexter” airs Sunday, June 30 at 9/8c on Showtime.
