Crazy is as crazy does, and if we learned anything watching the first season of A&E’s “Bates Motel,” it’s that poor Norman Bates never had a chance.
You see, mama Bates was off her rocker herself so it was only a matter of time before Norman went “Psycho.”
The addictive drama, which focuses on the teen years of “Psycho’s” Norman Bates, unspools the serial-killer-in-the-making tale of the young boy with mommy issues — and a mother with serious issues of her own. Vera Farmiga’s portrayal of Norman’s overprotective, jealous mother Norma has been nothing short of crazy-good, as her near-hysterics from this all-too short nine-week season have been a hoot to watch.
We’re bummed that Season 1 is coming to an end tonight, but the promo below promises it will go out with a bang — teasing “someone will die” — while showing Norma buying a gun.
“The ending is shocking,” star Freddie Highmore tells E! News of the first-season finale. “We all go a little mad some times,” he added with a laugh.
It will all make for a suspenseful off-season as we await the Season 2 premiere (next year!) — yes, “Bates Motel” has already been renewed for a second season of 10 new episodes, which will debut in 2014.
The first season finale of “Bates Motel” airs Monday at 10/9c on A&E.
