Sherri’s ‘View’ on Hasselbeck: She’s ‘Here to Stay’: Watch

We hadn’t heard much about the rumors of upheaval at “The View” since the last round of news stories earlier this year, so we bring you this update from none other than Sherri Shepherd.

Appearing on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” in L.A. Friday night, Shepherd insisted that co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is staying on the show, despite the rumors that Hasselbeck would exit the show this summer along with Joy Behar.

Behar, 70, announced in March that she won’t return to the show for its 17th season next fall, ending her run as one of two original co-hosts on the ABC mid-morning talk show. The other OC (original co-host) — producer Barbara Walters, 83 — was then also rumored to be preparing to announce her retirement, but Walters denied the rumors.

At the same time, it was reported that Hasselbeck, 35, would also be leaving. The stories implied Hasselbeck was not leaving voluntarily either, with producers deciding not to renew her contract as part of a reported effort to seek new co-hosts to freshen up the show. However, Walters also asserted back then that the Hasselbeck story wasn’t true and that she would also be staying on.

Shepherd was equally as adamant on that point Friday on “Tonight.” “Elizabeth is not going anywhere!” Sherri said when Jay Leno asked her about the situation. “She is there to stay!” Shepherd also said she’s sorry to see Joy go because the two are apparently close. And she commented on some of the candidates for Joy’s job who have appeared as guest co-hosts recently, including Brooke Shields, Ali Wentworth and Jenny McCarthy. Shepherd also said she didn’t think Walters would leave any time soon either. Watch the clip, above.
