Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney is scheduled to appear on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” next Friday (May 17).

The appearance — confirmed via an NBC press release that lists the “Tonight Show” guests for next week — will mark only the second time that Romney has agreed to a sitdown interview since he lost last November’s hotly contested presidential race to President Obama.

Since then, the Republican has largely withdrawn into his private life, surfacing for only one post-election interview this past February with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday.”

Certainly, Romney’s visit to the “Leno” show will be somewhat more light-hearted than the interview on the Fox News program, although we expect Jay Leno will ask him how he’s feeling now about losing the election after such a lengthy and hard-fought campaign. He’ll also hopefully ask Romney how he feels the president is doing so far in his second term. Romney appeared on “The Tonight Show” at least once last year, before the election.

Also booked for the same “Tonight Show” as Romney: Next week’s “American Idol” winner, who will be crowned the previous evening, on Thursday.
