The four coaches each lost a team member on the playoffs elimination on “The Voice” Wednesday. It was the seventh hour of “The Voice” this week, so they knew they better bring it, lest they squander our attention. So clearly, the best pick for a guest performer was Rod Stewart.

We get a quick rundown of the rules: America’s votes send the top 2 on each team through to the next round. Then the coaches then have to choose between the remaining two.

But first, a very important message from Telescope, the company that certifies all the voting. Apparently, there were “inconsistences” with the texting and online voting, Carson Daly informs us. A rep from the company explains that those votes were not counted, but that that didn’t affect the final tallies anyway. Mmmkay.

Team Blake and Team Shakira perform together (sans coaches), doing The Script’s “Hall of Fame.” Blake’s folks sound a little off, and Shakira’s team, honestly, comes across as a fairly talented and coherent bunch.

Already, it’s time for results. Team Blake: going to safety are Holly Tucker and Danielle Bradbery. Makes sense that the bottom two are the Swon Brothers and Justin Rivers. Bland and blander. And because every time someone mentions Justin Rivers, I’m like, “Who?” it’s clear that Swon Brothers deserve to keep going, even if the only thing memorable about them is that there are two. Blake agrees.

Next up: Rod Stewart. Why? Because they said so. He’s on stage forever. Toward the end, Karina Iglesias, Josiah Hawley and Garrett Gardner join him on stage for “Forever Young.” Fine, I’ll forgive them. Because next to grace us with his amazingness is Cee Lo Green! He’s back! No pets this time. But he emerges sitting in a tufted brown leather armchair, which is still fittingly Cee Lo. He does a new single, “Only You,” and is joined by his Season 2 runner up, Juliet Simms. She sounds and looks awesome. Shakira is definitely eyeing that metallic gold cape.

Results for Team Shakira: Sasha Allen is safe. Obviously. Kris Thomas also safe. Not so obvious. So we’re down to Karina and Garrett. It’s gotta be Karina, right? Wrong. Shakira says Karina is already good, but Garrett still needs her help, so she’s keeping him. Big, HUGE mistake!

Team Adam and Team Usher join forces to sing Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child.” Lots of woahhhhs and yeahhhhs and ohhhhs. Some bouncing, which doesn’t look good on everyone (Sarah Simmons I’m looking at you).

Finally it’s over. Results for Team Usher, which consists of four so very mediocre performers, it really doesn’t matter what happens here. Michelle Chamuel and Vedo are safe. Usher choose Josiah Hawley to move on and sends Cathia home.

And results for Team Adam: Judith Hill and Amber Carrington move on. But Adam can’t decide between Caroline Glaser and Sarah Simmons. The credits are already rolling when he finally just blurts out Sarah’s name.

So there you have it: Our top 12 who will be going off into the finals. The rules for how they will be eliminated are yet to be determined.
