“I accepted the fact that we were getting eliminated yesterday,” said Victor after Tuesday’s show, in which he and Lindsay were indeed sent packing. “My performance for whatever reason did not come through as it usually did in rehearsals. I felt it; I knew it; the scores were low. I don’t know what happened. I just kind of choked.”
Victor and Lindsay only received a score of 18 out of 30 for their dance set to the Stevie Wonder song, “I Just Called to Say I Love You” and Judge Bruno Tonioli memorably compared his arm movements to an airline safety drill.
“The judges were spot on,” Victor said. “I don’t know anything about dancing—they do. This is their world and I respect it. Today when I was on the stage I was happy because I accepted it last night but at the same time, it made me sad to say goodbye to everybody.
“But I had a great time. I wouldn’t take any of this experience back. I loved every moment of it. Even the moments where I broke down on camera in rehearsal. So at the end of the day, I’m still winning. I made great friends, met a great gal and I’ll always be a fan of Lindsay.”
Victor revealed during rehearsal footage aired on “DWTS” that his girlfriend had left him for another man and having his heart broken appeared to affect him in the competition.
“It’s a hard thing. I’m only human. I’m not made of steel,” the tough athlete explained to xfinityTV backstage. “I joke around a lot that I am, but I’m not. I have feelings just like anybody else.” Victor said of his rehearsal confessions, “If I could take it back, I probably would. I got caught up in the moment; I shouldn’t have done that.”
On Monday, he also surprised viewers by saying he loves his dance partner. But Victor revealed to xfinityTV after the show that he simply loves Lindsay as a friend. Plus, she already has a boyfriend!
“She’s been trying to get me to say ‘I love you’ for awhile in rehearsals and I’m always saying, nope, nope, so … I dropped the bomb on TV,” Victor smiled. “She’s a great friend to me. Just to clarify, there’s no romance. She’s got a boyfriend and I respect that.”
The former WBC Welterweight Champion plans to return to the ring soon: “I made a phone call about two weeks back because I already had a feeling I was going to be getting eliminated soon so I notified my management to get me a fight so I’ll be fighting in the next couple of months, more than likely for a world championship once again.”
Victor, who had surgery on his broken jaw last year, said, “My jaw’s been fine. Before the season [of "DWTS"] took place I had some specialists check it and they said wait a couple or a few more months so that’s why I took on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and now I’m good.”
The boxer lost 12 pounds while doing the show and said that is great for his sport. “[I lost most of it] in my abdominal area, my face, it was good. I came in looking like one of those Michelin guys and now I look like a boxer.”
But he still has a ways to go! “I fight at 147 pounds and I’m pushing 164,” Victor said.
Meanwhile, Lindsay would love to come back as a pro on “DWTS” after completing her first season as a show newbie. “I really hope so. I had such a fun time. I’ve grown so much as a person — [and] I learned how to punch!”
