Kellie Pickler, who became a country star after competing on “American Idol,” tore up the dance floor on Monday night’s “Dancing with the Stars.”
And she revealed to xfinityTV before her performance, she took a moment to visit the “American Idol” Final Four girls who work on the stage next door to “DWTS.”
Kellie, who tied for the top score with Zendaya Coleman in the individual dance portion of the competition on Monday, performed an amazing ’70s style quickstep with partner Derek Hough and got a near-perfect score of 29. But earlier in the day, she gave some love to her friend Kree Harrison and the other three “Idol” finalists — Angie Miller, Candice Glover, and Amber Holcomb. “Actually, I snuck up there because they’re right across the hall and I got to give them all a hug and say hello and wish them luck,” she said.
As xfinityTV has previously reported, Kellie and Kree are friends from Nashville and have a pact to get matching tattoos if they win their respective reality shows this season. “I think she’s going to be just fine,” Kellie said of Kree on Monday. “She’s just amazing. She’s a pro. She is! I think, at this point, they all should feel so thankful and grateful to make it this far in the show because that’s a tough thing to do.”
Kellie, who finished sixth during “Idol” Season 5, noted, “There’s a 100,000 people who audition for the show — to make the Top 40 even is a big accomplishment — and I don’t think it’s necessarily what place you come in, it’s where you go from there, where you take it, what are you going to do now? Because there’s always going to be a new season and it’s going to be in with the new, out with the old, so this is the beginning.”
The country cutie has also been watching “The Voice” and told xfinityTV, “I love the concept of them listening to the singers before they see them. I think that’s really neat because you really listen to the songs. You listen to their voice, their tone. Sometimes you hear them more so when you’re not looking at them. You’re not distracted by anything else. All you hear is their voice.”
When asked if she’d ever want to be a judge on a singing show, Kellie said, “I don’t know. It would depend on what it was, I guess, but I’m a pretty honest person. I don’t know if I could or not.”
Meanwhile, Kellie is now a front runner on “DWTS” and this week’s quickstep thrilled the judges, with the notoriously tough Len Goodman declaring that it was the best dance he’d seen all season.
Kellie said the dance was all a blur to her: “I don’t even really remember [it]. I was just like, ‘weeeeeee!’ Derek will tell me before we go out [on the ballroom floor], just think about the whole picture. We really just let go and had fun and I think that’s what people want to see us do.”
The “DWTS” results show airs Tuesday at 9/8c on ABC.
