After an embarrassing arrest last Friday, actress Reese Witherspoon is dropping out of the spotlight for a while.
The actress has cancelled scheduled appearances this week on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “Good Morning America,” according to The Washington Post, where she was slated to promote her new movie “Mud.”
The paper states that she was slated to take part in a Monday taping of a “GMA” segment that was supposed to run on Wednesday, while her appearance on Fallon’s show was scheduled for tomorrow.
On Friday, Witherspoon was arrested with her husband, CAA agent Jim Toth, in Atlanta after he was pulled over by police under suspicion of DUI. According to police reports, after Toth failed a blood-alcohol breath and a field sobriety test, the actress got out of the car and told the officer that “she was a ‘U.S. citizen’ and that she had the right to ‘stand on American ground.’”
Witherspoon was then arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, she allegedly told the arresting officer, “You’re about to find out who I am. … You’re going to be on national news,” according to the report.
She later released a statement to reporters, stating “I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.”
“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior.”
