Zooey Deschanel’s tricky name has given the actress grief over the years, but this takes the cake.

The “New Girl” star was unwittingly misidentified as one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects in a captioning blunder broadcast to viewers.

A Fox affiliate in the Dallas-Fort Worth area aired the unfortunate error on TV screens during its coverage Friday of the manhunt for Suspect #2 in the Boston Marathon bombings.

During the peak of the gripping manhunt and eventual capture of 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Fox 4 anchor read Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s name on air and the closed captioning on screen read: “He is 19-year-old Zooey Deschanel.” (See photo above.)

More Than 40 Million Watch End of Manhunt

The captioning gaffe immediately set off a flurry of remarks on Twitter, with thousands of re-tweets that eventually included a bump from “Community” star Joel McHale.

It all eventually caught the actress’s eye, and here’s what she had to say on her own Twitter page: “Whoa! Epic closed captioning FAIL!” Deschanel wrote on Saturday.

And you thought your cell phone’s Auto-correct feature was bad….

“New Girl” airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on Fox.
