Is “BachelorSean Lowe going to tie the knot with fianceé Catherine Giudici this August in a big TV wedding…or not?

Tom Bergeron made a quip on Tuesday night’s “Dancing with the Stars” right before the host announced Sean and his pro partner Peta Murgatroyd were safe to perform next week that caught viewers, and Sean himself, off guard.

“My understanding is that the marriage ceremony of Sean and Catherine is scheduled to be broadcast on ABC in August,” Tom said during the live show. “Based on what I’ve seen between him and Tristan [MacManus] tonight, I don’t know. Maybe not.”

Although Tom is known for his jokes, it didn’t seem like he was kidding at the time. Audience members, fans at home, and reporters backstage were shocked because the couple had yet to reveal their wedding date.

When the “DWTS” camera showed Sean’s face, he looked stunned that Tom had made the announcement.

But an ABC spokeswoman later told xfinityTV, “Tom was just kidding.”

Due to rehearsals, Sean was unavailable to do the “DWTS” press line backstage Tuesday night to clear things up.

The hunky reality TV star, who proposed to Catherine at the end of his “Bachelor” season, has been cagey when speaking to “DWTS” reporters about his wedding date. On April 2, he told xfinityTV and others, “It’s so hectic right now it’s just hard to plan anything. We might wait until ‘Dancing’ is over ‘til we really start planning stuff. Possibly [the wedding will happen] this summer, probably later than that, though.”

No matter when it happens, it appears Sean has a whole new group of friends who will be cheering him down the aisle. On Tuesday night after the show, with his partner Cheryl Burke by his side, eliminated comedian D.L. Hughley joked to reporters about Tom’s wedding announcement: “It was news to Sean, too, actually. I’m sure when you do a show about getting married, eventually, you’re going to have to get married. I’m sure he’s not as shocked, but he’ll be shocked when we crash the wedding — oh, absolutely!”
