The key to one of Sherlock Holmes’ personal mysteries is about to be revealed.
Dormer will play the pivotal role of Sherlock’s former lover, Irene Adler, in a three-episode stint that will lead to a big two-hour season finale, beginning Thursday, May 9.
The character was Sherlock’s first love and her mysterious murder at the hands of Moriarty is what caused Sherlock’s downward spiral into drug addiction.
“We’re moving to the next chapter in our show – and in some ways, to a previous chapter in Holmes’ story,” said executive producer/creator Rob Doherty. “Irene Adler is perhaps the most pivotal relationship in Sherlock’s life, and I can’t think of an actress better suited to the challenge than Natalie.”
Dormer currently stars as Margaery Tyrell on HBO’s acclaimed fantasy series “Game of Thrones.” She previously co-starred in Showtime’s period drama, “The Tudors,” playing Anne Boleyn.
“Elementary” airs Thursdays at 10/9c on CBS.
