Gymnast Aly Raisman, who stole our hearts at the Olympics last summer and is now competing on “Dancing with the Stars,” has a passion for her old leotards!
Aly told xfinityTV this week, “I save every single leotard I have [ever had].” The athlete, whose polished floor routine gave the U.S. women gymnastics team the gold medal, said, “I like to look at them sometimes whenever I’m at home [in Boston].” Aly admitted she’s saved “even my first leotards from when I was younger. I’m pretty sentimental about [that] stuff.”
She wears a new leotard for every competition. “I’m, like, weird — if I ever compete again, I’ll never wear them again. [It’s] just one time.”
Aly has stepped out of her comfort zone by wearing quite different outfits on “DWTS.” But she’s been getting more and more comfortable in the bejeweled gowns and got a strong score of 23 this week for her Viennese Waltz with partner Mark Ballas.
Now the 18-year-old gymnast hopes to add one of her glitzy show costumes to her closet full of leotards! “At the end of the season, you can buy them,” her pro Mark informed reporters.
“I’ll buy one,” Aly confirmed. “Hopefully the freestyle outfit,” she smiled, referring to the dance on the finale show in which the top three celebrities perform.
Mark said the “DWTS” costumes are expensive: “They’re handmade. Her first dress had 7,000 rhinestones, put on by hand.”
The veteran dance pro revealed that some of his previous partners have purchased their “DWTS” costumes at the end of the show. “Katherine Jenkins and Kristi Yamaguchi bought ALL of theirs. You go to Katherine’s house, in her closet, you open it and they’re all in a row in show order!”
Mark said he doesn’t buy his “DWTS” costumes because many of them are similar but admits he saved the wizard hat from his Season 12 jive with partner Chelsea Kane. “I took that home. It’s on my shelf,” he said.
So Aly and Mark have something in common, after all!
