HBO Renews ‘Game of Thrones’ for Season 4

Don’t worry Westeros worshipers, the throne is secure on HBO. Hot on the heels of its big season premiere comes another wave of good news for “Game of Thrones.”

HBO has renewed the epic fantasy drama for a fourth season, the network announced Tuesday.

As with previous seasons, the renewal is likely to be for 10 episodes, expected to air in early 2014.

Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, “Game of Thrones” is the gripping and tale of the battle for the throne on the continent of Westeros, where the lust for power rules above all else.

The acclaimed series’ returned Sunday night with its Season 3 premiere with a record series high in viewership, drawing 4.4 million people for its 9 p.m. airing, up 4% from last year, and growing to 11.6 million viewers when the numbers are combined across platforms.

“Game of Thrones” airs Sundays at 9/8c on HBO.
