Bob Newhart is sweeping into CBS for May sweeps.

The TV legend will guest star on an episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” scheduled to air Thursday, May 2, TV Line reports.

Newhart will play “Professor Proton,” the host of a kid’s science show that Sheldon (Jim Parsons) loved as a child. Turns out the nutty professor also played a big part in Leonard’s (Johnny Galecki) childhood in some way too.

According to TV Line, the storyline will feature Sheldon tracking his idol down online, where he discovers that Professor Proton can be hired for parties and events, so, of course, Sheldon books him to come over to their house.

It’s Newhart’s first time back on TV since he guest starred in a three-episode stint on “Desperate Housewives” in 2005. The former sitcom star, who’s been nominated for an Emmy six times, struck gold twice with his own series, “The Bob Newhart Show” (1972-1978) and “Newhart” (1982-1990).
