‘Bigfoot’ Jim Carrey Steps Up His Game on ‘Letterman’: Watch

Some late-night guests really come ready to perform — and Jim Carrey is one of them.

That’s what he did Wednesday night on David Letterman’s “Late Show” on CBS when he came dancing on stage wearing tiny feathered angel wings attached to the back of his jacket and, on his feet, a pair of huge prosthetic, bare feet.

Obviously, these accoutrements were meant to provoke discussion, and comedy — which is what they did. When you watch the clips — starting with the first one, above — notice how realistic these feet are, despite their outlandish size.

Also, note how Carrey brandished them in such a way that they dominated the screen. It was as if the feet were being shot with a wide-angle lens, so that they appeared “over-sized” in the foreground. This became especially striking at one point in the show when Carrey put the feet up on Dave’s desk — rendering everything else in the picture insignificant and puny, including Dave himself. It was just hilarious.

In fact, the feet were so distracting that, at later points in Carrey’s guest-shot on the show (which lasted through three segments), we noticed the camera shot the show’s director was using seemed purposely designed not to show the feet. We don’t know this for sure, of course, but maybe the producer and director got together and eventually decided they’d had enough of these feet dominating their show.

Whatever the case, the hilarity was maintained throughout as Carrey explained the feet and the angel wings, which were part of his new-found spirituality. He explained it all with a little help from “Late Show” stage manager Biff Henderson.

The angel wings and big feet weren’t the only things Carrey prepared in advance for the “Letterman” show. He also showed a series of photos in which he appeared — “Zelig”-like — in historic photos.

We were not aware that, early in his career as a standup comedian, Carrey had a warm working relationship with the late Rodney Dangerfield.

Carrey told a great story about Rodney, when Dave asked him about that — watch:
