Pals Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon kicked off a week of togetherness Monday night with some intimate conversation, some mutual impersonations and one musical performance — not together this time, just JT solo-ing on one of his new singles.
We expect that Justin and Jimmy will collaborate on another “History of Rap” performance — or one like it — later in the week that is sure to be a YouTube hit, if past experience is any guide.
Timberlake will be on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” all week, performing both old and new songs (at least that’s what he said Monday night), including singles from his new album “The 20/20 Experience.”
We don’t know the personal history of the friendship (or at least respect) that seems apparently genuine between these two entertainers. But their relationship makes for a warm situation when they get together on Fallon’s show.
Timberlake, of course, had just guest-hosted “Saturday Night Live” — a gig that seemed to be the launchpad for a publicity push for his new album. This week of “Late Night” appearances seems to be Phase Two of that effort.
The two talked about Timberlake’s “SNL” appearance, where, among other things, he was inducted into the multi-host hall of fame known as the Five-Timers Club (it was Justin’s fifth time as “SNL” guest-host). Justin and Jimmy also joked about making out with each other.
The two then got into a kind of impression competition, with Timberlake doing his Fallon — an impersonation Fallon did not agree with at all.
Of course, the charm of Justin Timberlake aside, the real reason to watch him is the way he performs. On “Late Night,” he sang one of his new songs — “Pusher Love Girl.”
