A shocking reality has set in for “Dancing with the Stars” fans. Resident bad boy Maksim Chmerkovskiy will NOT be appearing on Season 16 of the show.

“He needed space,” his brother Val Chmerkovskiy reveals to xfinityTV.

Maks’ departure was widely rumored days ago, but it was made official this morning when the pro dancer wasn’t among the new cast members announced on “Good Morning America.”

Although Maks has threatened to leave “DWTS” many times before, it seemed like the famously moody dancer was just fooling us. Until now.

On Tuesday morning, Maks’ brother Val, who will be competing with Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman this season, told xfinityTV exclusively, “I think the show will miss him and I will miss him. It’s a gift that I had for the last four seasons to be able to work side-by-side with my brother. Not everybody gets to share a stage this big with your sibling. That’s a blessing.”

“But everything comes to an end, and [yet] it’s not an end. My brother has a very good relationship with the show and he needed space,” Val explains. “They were willing to accommodate that. The doors are always open and let somebody else shine once.”

While he’s moving on at “DWTS” without his brother, Val said Maks could “absolutely” come back to the show that made him famous in a future season.

“There’s no bitter feelings about anything,” Val said. “He’s very grateful for the opportunities. I’m grateful for him. My family’s grateful for the show because it changed all our lives. The fact that they allowed him to go and venture off into other lanes — we’re very grateful for that.”

The longtime dancer, who came out from under Maks’ shadow last season by guiding soap star Kelly Monaco to a surprise third place finish on “All-Stars,” smiled, “I see my brother every day. We live together.”

But viewers who loved Maks’ hunky dark looks and lived for his outrageous, unscripted comments (he constantly dissed the judges and once declared that “Dancing with the Stars” was “MY show!”) will have to live without him. Instead, they’ll be introduced to a handsome new male dancer this season, Gleb Savchenko, whose partner is “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Vanderpump.

Meanwhile, insiders are wondering if dancer Peta Murgatroyd, who was also not included in Tuesday’s cast reveal, might be a surprise addition to “DWTS” later on. “The BachelorSean Lowe was widely rumored to be doing “DWTS” this season and could be added as a 12th celebrity contestant in the coming weeks, after his last “Bachelor” episodes air. If so, would Peta be the perfect partner for the blonde hunk?

Certainly, the coast would be clear for Peta in terms of avoiding any potential awkwardness off stage, since she and Maks recently broke up after a ten-month romance. Stay tuned!

The new season of “DWTS” premieres Monday, March 18 at 8/7c on ABC.
