Funnyman David Alan Grier is preparing to play a principal role in the CBS sitcom adaptation of the Cameron Diaz movie “Bad Teacher.”
Grier, 56 — who first gained fame as one of the stars of “In Living Color” — has been signed to play the principal of the school where the “bad teacher” works, according to several stories appearing over the weekend, including this one on THR.com.
In the 2011 comedy movie, the school principal was played by John Michael Higgins. In the movie, the principal’s name was Wally Snur. In the TV show, the name is changing to Carl Gaines — for reasons that are not specified.
The principal role seems to be the only one yet cast for the TV version of “Bad Teacher,” since none of the stories about Grier’s casting include any word on who will play the title role.
It’s the key role, of course — the foul-mouthed, pot-smoking schoolteacher played by Diaz in the movie. It also figures to be one of the more juicy TV roles available at the moment for the right actress. And we just thought of one: Christina Applegate, who quit NBC’s “Up All Night” earlier this month.
