AMC’s “The Killing” isn’t just coming back to life, it’s bringing some big name talent to the small screen too.

Peter Sarsgaard has signed on to join the upcoming third season of the show in his first regular TV role. Sarsgaard will play a death row inmate named Tom Seward, “a lifelong convict born into poverty and crime who’s been in and out of the system for violent crimes since he was 10.”

Sarsgaard, who’s married to actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, is predominantly a movie star known for his roles in such films as “An Education,” “Shattered Glass,” “Jarhead,” “Knight and Day” and “Green Lantern.”

Original series leads Mireille Enos (Det. Sarah Linden) and Joel Kinnaman (Det. Stephen Holder) will be back for Season 3, helmed once again by executive producer and writer Veena Sud.

Here’s the premise of the new season, as described by AMC: “A year after closing the Rosie Larsen case, Sarah Linden is no longer a detective. But when her ex-partner Stephen Holder’s search for a runaway girl leads him to discover a gruesome string of murders that connects to a previous murder investigation by Linden, she is drawn back into the life she thought she’d left behind.”

AMC confirmed in January that it was resurrecting the previously cancelled series and beginning production February 25 on 12 new episodes, although no premiere date has been set.
