Justin Bieber and the writers at “Saturday Night Live” devised a way for the 18 year-old teen heartthrob to “apologize” to his fans for smoking pot.
They worked the apology into a sketch seen on Saturday night’s show in which Bieber played an obsessed Miley Cyrus fan who brought up the subject of the real Justin Bieber when he appeared on “SNL’s” satiric “Miley Cyrus Show.”
The sketch had “Miley” (played, as always, by Vanessa Bayer) welcoming this fan onto her show, where the two talked about Bieber. Bieber — in character — said he was no fan of the real Justin. “You’re kidding me, right? He looks like a lesbian!” said the character, who went on to disparage the real Bieber even further.
“I heard he still has his baby teeth!” the character said, adding: “And I also heard he got busted for smokin’ weed, and that he’s really sorry about it, and people make mistakes, and he’s never gonna do it again!”
Bieber’s pot-smoking first came to light early last month when photos emerged in which he was apparently smoking a blunt (it’s a kind of marijuana cigarette). He issued no statements or comments about the photos until Saturday night’s “SNL.”
Bieber, who was both the show’s guest-host and musical guest, opened the program with a monologue that brought Valentine’s Day together with Black History Month. The bit revealed that Justin really needs to brush up on his black history.
It was all in jest, of course, as Bieber honored black history (February is Black History Month), and serenaded some female fans sitting in the “SNL” audience Saturday night on NBC.
With puppy-dog eyes, he looked upon the studio audience and said he was looking for “one special girl to help me find love and maybe also the great progress African-Americans have made in the nation!”
And there in the audience, ready to help out, was none other than Whoopi Goldberg, 57, who joined Justin on stage.
It was the second time this week that Goldberg, a co-host on “The View” on ABC, had turned up on an NBC late-night show to loan out her talent. Earlier, she appeared in both “Downton Abbey” spoofs seen on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
We have to say “bravo” to this next clip which was styled as a lengthy promo for some upcoming reality shows on Bravo. It was all about the spinoffs of spinoffs of Bravo’s over-the-top reality shows — with titles such as “The Moroccans of Mulholland Drive” and “Real Houseplants of Beverly Hills.” And yes, Justin’s in this one too — near the end.
One sketch that didn’t feature Justin: The show’s “cold open,” which paid comedic tribute to last Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast on CBS as the network’s commentators attempted — and failed — to pass the time during the power outage that halted the game for 34 minutes.
In this next sketch, “Grease” was the word as Justin starred in a tribute to teen-aged romance in the 1950s.
